Try One-Armed Swings For Faster Improvement

A great practice technique that is a remarkable way to help you develop a better sense of your swing, and the ball, is to take practice shots with one hand.

Here is how it's done:

1. On the practice range, stand over the ball with your normal stance, using a wedge or the 9-iron.

2. Let go of the club with your dominant hand. Keep it at your side. Remember, this drill requires only one arm in use.

3. Start your one-arm practice swing by taking chip shots. By hitting these small chip shots, you will develop a better feel for getting the clubhead on the ball. It also lets you see how the ball moves when it comes off of the clubface.

But the fact is that there are numerous times when a chip shot is without a doubt the best strategy shot to make to get the ball out of the sand and closer to the hole.

First, Check 2 Things:

1) Chipping the ball will cause a low shot, without much climb, so there should be little-to-no lip on the trap.

2) Plenty of putting surface should exist between the trap and the hole.

Assuming that both of these conditions are right, feel free to have your caddie hold onto your sand wedge and pull out your 8 iron or 9 iron.

Hit firmly down on the ball, without hitting any sand behind the ball. Now focus hard, keeping your head steady, as this is a delicate shot. The ball should come out clean and crisp with a lot of over-spin so expect a bit of run.

For those of you who want to get into golf, but have yet to step foot on a golf course, you may not know what to expect.

Perhaps you are still learning how to hit the ball on the driving range and are a little nervous to actually play the real game. Whatever your reasons, you need to know what kind of turf the course is made of.

The fairway is your guiding path towards the hole. The grass that is on the fairway will be trimmed very closely to the ground, typically between ½ and 1 inch. On either side of the fairway is longer grass which is called the primary rough. A secondary rough goes beyond that area and the grass is even longer than the primary.

The width of the fairway can vary, depending upon the course. The narrower it is, the more difficult the hole is to play. For example, PGA Tours have professional golf players playing on courses that have fairways that are as little as 20 yards wide.
